Recently, something has clicked with me. I seem to have become obsessed with a sort of new hobby. I have basically fallen back in love with decoupage, but this time in a big way. In fact, I have become a little bit crazy with it.
I dabbled in this last year and I even posted up on here about it. The set I bought was pretty good, and I did as few pieces from that set which lead me to covering a sewing box.
After a quiet afternoon in I joined a couple of Decoupage groups on Facebook and after seeing a lot of different posts by the other members it’s inspired me to try and create something of my own. I read quite a few of the other members were using wallpaper to do their projects, and thought this was an awesome idea. Especially as a lot of them said they just go into a DIY store and get free wallpaper samples as you quite often don’t need a lot of paper to do a project, and definitely not a whole roll of it.
Now this seems to have triggered something with me, whilst searching for things for the new project, I can’t get enough of collecting wall paper! I have now been to 4 different places to get wallpaper, I’m not even sure what I’m going to do with all of it!
I suppose I should explain what I had in mind for my first project. Well, after not being able to find a phone case I like, I decided to make my own! So I bought a cheap plain plastic hard case and set out to cover it in wallpaper. After a trying to cover the whole thing in wallpaper and not getting far. I decided to try some Decopatch paper I had left over for another project and cutting out a bit of wallpaper for a splash of colour. This is what I ended up with…
I have since cut out the holes for the camera on the back etc. It needs a bit of a touch up before I finish it completely, but I don’t think it’s bad for a first go at this kind of thing.
When I went “shopping” for wallpaper, it was initially to just find something for the phone case. But as you can see, I ended up with a lot more! Some I haven’t got anything planned for yet. But I have completed one project so far.
To add a bit of colour in my very beige lounge, I decided to create some canvases for the wall. Friends have been very complimentary about them and my Mum even wants me to do some for her!
So now I’m onto my next project, which is in a similar vein, as in I will be covering a canvas, but this time it’ll be going on my bedroom wall. I’ve spent many hours cutting out butterflies from wallpaper and I’m going to make them into a collage on a canvas to go on my wall.
The end result probably won’t look too different to what’s in the picture, but I’m going to keep rearranging the butterflies until I’m happy and then stick them down.
I like to think of myself as quite a creative person, and now I’ve started doing this, I have tons of different projects going on in my head now, I have collected more wallpaper, bought napkins, tissue paper and wrapping paper to use. I have bought some tester pots of chalky paint too so I can give some furniture a facelift. It is starting to take over my life! I was up until 1am cutting out the butterflies last weekend. Quite soon I have a feeling I could easily give up a social life for all the different projects I want to do.
My parents are even getting in on it, my Dad found something in a skip that looked too good to throw away and asked if I could do something with it.
This was a CD rack that was left behind after a local car boot sale, he decided it was too good to leave behind as it’s solid wood. Offered it to me and I gladly took it off his hands. He removed the CD holders from it, as I have other ideas of what I’d like to with it. I will post updates of all the different things I’m doing. But I am really loving my creative side coming back out in full, and it’s awesome that I have been able to finish projects for once. I am usually so good at starting things and not finishing them. At this rate, I can see everyone I know ending up with homemade gifts for Birthday’s and Christmas.

After a bit of reading some other blogs on ye olde internets and came across the lovely Hollie’s blog over at Pretty Big Butterflies and she’s come up with this brilliant idea of having a rummage through stuff at home to make a review or blog post about. You can find her original post about it here.
This is my first post, and I have actually struggled a little to try and figure out what I want to blog first for this! But I have decided to take this opportunity to review my first beauty product.
I bought Batiste Smoothing Conditioning Mist just as a random buy, as there was a 3 for 2 offer on, I thought I’d give it a try. I have really thick hair which is also wavy, which can be an awful combination at times. I’m always on the look out for things to try and tame the tresses with out having to break out the hair straighteners as it can take me 45 minutes to an hour to straighten it all over, and who has time for that kind of thing?! Plus, I actually like my hair being wavy sometimes, so straightening takes that away.
This Conditioning Mist, in a basic sense, works in a very similar way to the dry shampoo. Except, instead of putting it on the roots, you aim it mid length to the ends. The mist is very fine and doesn’t leave a white residue like the shampoo does, so it can be a bit hard to see if you’ve got everywhere. I tend to just go for the spray and hope approach, which seems to be working for me so far.
I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised on how well this works. It calms down the volume of my hair without compromising my waves and it a lot light than leave in conditioners, which I have used in the past to try and get a similar effect. As it’s dry, it’s great for last minute hair styling if you are running late for meeting friends etc.
I will definitely be stocking up on this next time it’s on offer, which I hope is soon as my can is starting to get low!

I have decided to try and kick my blog up a gear, actually get a hold of this and try and update it with some sort of regularity.
This has lead me to create a new Facebook Page for the blog. Quite exciting! It’s a bit bare at the moment, but I’m getting to grips with it still.

This evening I have officially got into my first singledom slump. One of those evenings where is seems almost everyone on your Facebook or Twitter or even friends texting you are talking about weddings or babies or maybe even both.
I know these days are going to come and go. But this evening it is bothering me. Not in a horrible way. I am genuinely happy for my friends. But it is times like these that I wonder if it will ever happen for me.
It probably doesn’t help that I haven’t had the best of Monday’s. My week was nicely kicked off by waking up to the feeling that my neck was twice it’s usual width due to the glands being swollen with cold. Confirming that my scratchy throat from the weekend wasn’t bad hay fever after all but the beginnings of a cold. Great.
Then I had a ladies issues appointment with the nurse. Completely undignified and uncomfortable. So yeah. Not the best start to the week.
I’m also in a massive Slimming World slump. I need to try and restart with my original enthusiasm. I need to remind myself why I joined in the first place. Set myself some targets to achieve and actually get the hell on with it! No excuses. No reasons to sabotage myself.
Things are not going to change unless I change them.
After a lot of soul searching, I have decided to put some serious effort into doing some career research. I can’t stay in my current job. It’s eating away at my well being. I have lost all motivation for my work.
I work in a customer service call centre, I answer calls rather than do cold calling. This was never what I was supposed to do. I took a job in the company, originally as a temp, as a stop gap between university going down the pan and figuring out what I wanted to do with my work life.
Seven years later I’m a permanent member of staff and still here. Doing a completely different role to what I started out in. I never intended to be in the customer facing part, originally I was in the back office part of the business which was quite nice and relaxed and not having to speak with customers.
But, as with a lot of companies, I was pushed around different teams and areas of the business and ended up on the front lines.
I have been doing this particular role for about 2 years now, maybe more it all merges in to one after a while, and I have officially had enough and need something new to challenge me.
The main focus of my search is going into getting beauty treatment qualifications. In manicures to start off with then branch out into other things like hand massage, make up and nail art. The theory is that I will do this at evening classes around work and then once I’m qualified I’ll do some work on the side of my regular job and see if I can build up some business.
Annoyingly, the beauty college closest to me has stopped doing the nail and manicures course that sounded perfect for me. So I am in a hunt for a similar course that I don’t have to travel too far for. I would do a study at home course but I think I need to be in a classroom environment to make sure I knuckle down to it. However, if there isn’t a course at a day or time I can do, then I will have to go for that instead.
I really hope that it pays off. Life is too short to be in a job I hate.
Seems I have been a bit slack at updating my blog with my 100 happy days. But if you’ve followed me on Instagram, you’ll have seen it. If not then look below!
